A month ago I was driving to work on a dreary Monday morning – stereotypical, straight from a movie, Monday morning. I was half asleep, coming up to the red brake lights of traffic, and it started to drizzle.
My negative self was ON A ROLL.
But this is not how God made me. I’m a believer in the power of the Holy Spirit living in me. I felt a nudging… I wanted to ignore it, after all, I was on a roll with my sassy self and was finding PLENTY to complain about. But the phrase kept popping up in my head, “WORSHIP HIM ANYWAY.”
Look I don’t know about you guys, (and I’ve probably said it before, and I’ll probably say it again) but when you feel the tugging on your heart, and there’s the innate feeling that it’s from the Lord – YOU LISTEN. So I pulled out my Spotify playlist and you know what? I felt better. God’s word in music is so powerful. I began knowing and proclaiming the truth far greater than my negativity in my car in that traffic and it felt pretty freaking awesome.
When you feel awesome, you want to share it right? I totally did. I went to Instagram and shared my experience on my stories. Then I thought, “man I could use some new tunes.” So I posed a question to you guys, “what is your favorite worship song right now?” and you totally came through! I had several people dm me and I added the songs to my playlist. Another cool thing that happens now is when that song comes up on my playlist, I think of the person who suggested it. I thank God for her and thank God for her encouragement in the form of an uplifting song.
I now want to encourage you in something. If you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, start your day off with God’s word. You can do this by reading your Bible, your devotional book, or listening to some worship music. It makes such a huge difference in your day. I know because I’ve seen the difference in when I do, and when I don’t. I hear my friends say the same thing in their lives.
I know my reasons for being down and out were petty. Sometimes they’re not though. Sometimes in life we go through some hard stuff. This side of heaven isn’t suppose to be easy. If it were, why would we need a Savior or a Heaven? But even on those hard days, worship him anyway. We know in the bible it says we should rejoice in our suffering because it produces endurance, which produces character, and character, hope.
3 “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope” – Romans 5:3-4
If there is any small way I can help you be uplifted in the mornings, I want to. I’m going to leave the link to the Spotify playlist “Worship Him Anyway” here, so if you would like to listen or add to the playlist, you can. Please do not delete any songs from the playlist. If you sent me a song through Instagram a month ago, you will find it on here as well. I look forward to sharing this with you guys and collaborating as a community to lift one another up on our cloudy days.
Also, if you don’t have Spotify, but would still like to send in a worship song you’ve been loving lately, do so in the comments below!
